Description

This coastal inspired embroidery has a mixture of techniques. Firstly I made a light watercolour wash on calico fabric as a background. Then I layered several pieces of fabric in different tones of blue to represent the sea and the rocks. I then added some machine embroidery to sew down the layers of fabric and add texture and finer details like the sea foam from the waves and the seaweed on the shoreline. Finally I added hand embroidery  which again adds a certain texture and describes the seascape in more details. Some stitches I used include french knots for the stones on the shoreline and chain stitch for the sea foam that laps up on to the sand.

It is framed in a standard white box frame measuring 43 x 33cm and I chose a double white mount, the image size is 29 x 19cm.
