Description
I started the process by applying a watercolor wash on calico fabric in pale greens to represent grass. I created a template of a daffodil and then embroidered it using yellow and orange embroidery thread, employing the long and short stitch technique. This method, often referred to as “painting with thread,” allows the threads to blend together, showcasing shading and depth of tone, which gives the finished piece a realistic appearance. For the grasses in the background, I added some free-motion embroidery. Finally, I finished the piece with a neatly sewn piece of felt on the reverse of the hoop, using blanket stitch to hide the stitches on the back of the fabric.
