Thistle Stained Glass Suncatcher Scottish Flower of Scotland Handmade

£35.00

A gorgeous Thistle Suncatcher, Flower of Scotland. Handmade and absolutely unique.

Stained Glass hand-crafted using the Tiffany Copper-foil technique.

A prickly purple Scottish Thistle which I have made in the shape of a ring, 14cm in diameter.

I’ve formed the centre of the flower from little shiny glass nuggets to match the pattern you get on the real flower.

The petals on top are a pretty purple and the leaves a super bright green wth a sparkly texture to make them prickly when the sun shines through.

I have used clear iridescent textured glass between the flower and the leaves to give gentle heathery shades with a reflective shimmer.

There are 39 pieces of glass in this piece, each individually cut, copper foiled and then soldered together as well as 6 nuggets.   This is one of my fiddliest suncatcher designs and I have to pluck up courage to start it but am always delighted when I have a gorgeous completed thistle to hand.

I often neaten the edges of circular suncatchers with a twisted wire frame but in this case I have deliberately left the edges untouched to add to the prickly appearance.

Made by Joy and entirely handmade with love.

Description

A beautiful green and purple Thistle, a stained glass suncatcher.

Handmade with love and designed to hang in the window and catch the light.

Each piece of glass is individually cut, shaped  on my grinder then carefully wrapped in copper foil and burnished before all the pieces are soldered together.

This will make a super, unique present for anyone but especially someone with Scottish associations. I am 3/32ths Scottish myself so feel it is fine for me to make this representation of the Flower of Scotland.

The suncatcher hangs from a little chain which is securely attached to the top. I always supply a suction hook so the suncatcher comes ready for you to hang.

I attach the chain using split rings so you can if you prefer replace it, maybe with a ribbon, quite easily.

Please note that no two of my suncatchers are ever the same even to the same design.

I deliberately don’t keep a record of the types of glass used so it is pretty impossible for me to make an exact match and that is my intention. I like all my pieces to be unique and I always use different combinations of glass.
