Hello I’m Marion and thank you for coming to see my store. Everything you see for sale here was designed and/or made by me. I sign my work ‘Mars’ which was my nickname all through college. My ceramics are all hand built using slab, coil and press moulding methods as I do not have a throwing wheel.
Background.
Originally from Crewkerne in Somerset and now Purbeck Dorset, this is my second go around as an artist/maker, having had my first business in the mid 80s when I was fresh out of Bath College of Art (as it was then) with my 3D Design Ceramics degree. I traded as ‘Jadar’ and sold my work mostly at New Age fairs and shops, particularly in the Bristol & Bath area. Walford Mill in Dorset, Glastonbury and Bishops Waltham in Hampshire where my Aunt had a shop called ‘Rainbows’. I also took part in the very first Somerset Art Weeks and ran a cooperative gallery for makers in my home town.
Life changes and the need to earn a living took me away from my work for 15 years and following ill health, menopause and redundancy, I came back to this very different ‘digitised’ world of art with online selling and social media, when I moved to Dorset which I have embraced whole heartedly. This kind of platform gives a longer reach to those of us in a rural community and I now combine online selling with a few local events per year.
I’m a big believer in supporting and collaborating with other small businesses as much as possible and source many of my supplies accordingly, therefore support for me is also helping support others like me. Check out the ‘Just a Card’ Movement.
