My name is Carolyn, I live in Southampton with my husband, our two sons and Doris and Betty the sausage dogs and I’m a Jewellery Designer/ Silversmith and owner of ‘Silverbird Designs’.My background has always been an artistic one. I have a Graphic Design and Illustration degree and worked for over 15 years in the design industry – I loved my job, but decided to find a career that would better fit our family’s life, yet still give me a creative outlet. I began making jewellery as gifts for friends and family after taking a course at my local college in 2009. From there, things grew and I successfully opened for business in June 2013 and haven’t looked back since. Most days you will find me busying away in my garden workshop making beautiful, handcrafted silver jewellery. All my pieces are lovingly created using traditional silversmith techniques and a variety of precious metals, gemstones and my own handmade fused-glass.I find inspiration everywhere but most often from nature – the wonderful colours, shapes and textures – they’re hard to ignore. I also enjoy finding new and interesting ways to reveal the beauty in things that are often overlooked or taken for granted – a piece of antique lace, a dried leaf or flower – the possibilities are endless … so many ideas and so little time! Thanks for looking!
